The Red Hot Chili Steppers Walk to End Alzheimer's

September 19, 2022
Did you know that Alzheimer's Disease is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States? Admiral's Pointe came together and participated in another year of The Walk to End Alzheimer's to do our part. This annual event is held every year in September and was created to raise awareness and funds in the fight against Alzheimer's Disease. This is a national campaign with walks held in more than 600 communities nationwide!

Admiral's Pointe joins in the fight to raise money for this foundation every year, with Lisa Hudson, our Activity Director, leading the team. This year, we proudly raised $500 from a yard sale and with donations from our staff. This event holds a special place in our hearts as we see the direct impact and understand the devastation this disease has on our residents and their families. Alzheimer's takes away so much, including control. Walking is an honor to stand for those we have lost, fight for those who can't fight, and raise awareness.

Our team, The Red Hot Chili Steppers, began the 2-mile walk at Shoreline Park in Sandusky. It was surreal walking into the venue to see so many people come together for a great cause. There was everything from vendors to food tables, face painters, giveaways, speakers, radio stations and everything in the color purple.

Everyone on our team had their own reasons for joining the fight. Our DON, Hillary West, stated, "My grandma has Alzheimer's, so I walk in her memory in the hopes that my children and grandchildren do not have to experience losing someone to this disease. I also walk for our residents and their families." Lisa Hudson, our Activity Director, shared, "My heart and passion are for those who suffer with this disease. I have dedicated my life to Admiral's Pointe and bringing awareness to families and quality of life to our residents." Our Administrator, Amy Donaldson, our biggest supporter in these events, expressed, "For me, it's a mission to bring our team together, to fight, to serve, to stand in the gap for our residents and for our families to know they are not alone."

Admiral's Pointe will continue to participate in this annual event with our community to unite for the fight against Alzheimer's Disease. We love our residents, families and community who feel the effects of this disease. We stand with you, and together, we walk to end Alzheimer's.

You can still help in the fight against Alzheimer's by making a donation below.
